GRGR Band Bios for May 2, 2009

Loki the Grump (NY; CORE) LOKI THE GRUMP [are] "known for their punchy hooks, driving pulse and a strong female vocalist who brings it all together. Kind of like the lovechild of Black Flag and Poly Styrene," says Church of Girl, while Village Voice describes them as "theatrical, sardonic punk rock." With a mission of "puttin' the FUN back in GRUMP" it's no wonder LTG has been spreading the grumpiness worldwide to a rabid and ever-growing fan base who proudly declare themselves GRUMPIES. Front woman Michele Jaffe – an award-winning songwriter - has evolved from playing drums in punk/goth bands into a loud, raucous and in-your-face rock goddess! She is joined by guitarist Dimitri Vishnepolsky – a Moscow-born violin & trumpet-playing guitar god; monster bassist Phil Pham, recognized for his numerous stints in NYC rock and punk bands; and a rotating roster of kick-ass drummers, with the incredibly rockin' Jovan drumming for GRGR events. This diverse combo serves off-the-charts performances and hook-laden songs that haunt you for days - pure Grumpy FUN! Their EP, "The Brink" has received airplay on several local and international radio stations (including Q104.3's "Out of the Box", WBAB's "Homegrown", Ithaca's "Last Exit for the Lost", France's "Babes in Boyland" and Internet stations "Church of Girl", "Radio Crystal Blue" & "Suburban Hell), and they recently launched a limited edition CD, "Who U Callin' A Pussy! (The CCNY Sessions)". Catch Loki the Grump at a Girls Rock & Girls Rule event in a city near you! It's time to GET GRUMPY!! (lokithegrump.com)

Marisa Mini (NY; CORE) Marisa Mini & The Underage Hotties (NY; CORE) plays dirty, funny, rough-around-the-edges rock. Led by guitarist/singer Marisa – who made her GRGR debut acoustically with hilarious songs about sodomy, vibrators and blondeness -- the band is now a four-person force. Energized, mohawked hottie Bryant takes lead guitars, adorable and precise (and blonde) hottie Bettie Morgan rules the bass and second vocals, and pounding metal man hottie Jovan delivers the drum beats. Their live performances have culminated in blood and bruises, but everyone's guaranteed to have a good time! (myspace.com/marisamini)

S.M.U.T. (NY) is a Brooklyn based Punk band with an attitude. Hailing back to the early days of Punk and smashing it up with their own individual style of harmonies, hardcore breakdowns, oi, and aggro, they will smack you upside the head with sound. S.M.U.T. is fronted by Cutie Calamity, NYC artist and ex manager of Reagan Youth and Bryant Furey of the Liberties & Marisa Mini on Guitar and Vocals, with Big Joe on Bass and Vocals & Will on drums. S.M.U.T. is good, aggressive, fun music for anyone with a sense of humor and a love for shaking things up.

Solito (NC/SC) Solito is an art punk duo AND a fusion duo. The art punk set is an hour plus of in your face 3 to 7 minute songs that meld the styles and technique of punk, metal, pop, and prog. This version of the band has been compared to Talking Heads, Zappa meets Butthole Surfers, Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth. The fusion set is an hour plus of “tumbling jazz interpretations”. Solito’s unique compositions are simple yet interesting in form and style. Mostly influenced by 70’s fusion and Miles Davis. In both of its incarnations, Solito performs mostly original music with a couple obscure covers. For the last 12 years Shawna and Moose have been playing hundreds of shows covering North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina. They have also been involved in 4 full length recordings. In October of 2008, Solito opened up for Unknown Hinson and were part of a Girls Rock Girls Rule Tour based out of New York City. (myspace.com/musicalspanking)

Tibbie X (NY) Tibbie X is the lead singer/antagonist of Kissy Kamikaze NYC Femme Fatale punk . Having toured across Europe and a part of the NYC underground for over 13 years she has reputation for her aggressive vocals and violent stage antics. An East village warrior with a lot of heart she claims to only write love songs, suicidal/homicidal truths, personal disasters made universal. Her solo work is self labeled as "Romanticide chaoscore". (myspace.com/Kissykamikaze)

Trauma Team 666 (NY) Trauma Team 666 formed in June 6th, 2006. It is fronted by the always intoxicated ChasTITTY Chace. Bloody Mary is the VERY DANGEROUS drummer. Please keep your hands inside that ride at all times! Paul Mastiff is the solid rock guitar star who keeps the rest of the fucktards in line. Trauma Team 666 has an impressive NEW bassist. Said bassist will be officially revealed that very night! All members will be available after the show for general butt kissing, autographs and free drinks! Come get sick with Trauma Team 666 or stay home and be a loser. Your call. (myspace.com/traumateam666)

GRGR Band Bios for 2008 Tour

America’s Sweetheart (NJ; CORE) Three girls and one boy who will try almost anything—sweeter than lollipops and more bubbly than the fairy in the absinthe—they get it together and give it over to you in three-chord groovy merriment. Everybody sings and claps hands and comes together in a thrilling, nearly orgiastic rock n’ roll spectacle: Valerie Germain—the “oooh” and “aahhing” rhythm master on the green Gretsch; Trish Naudon—the thump and thwacking drummer who will not let you escape the beat; CT—the sizzling lead guitarist who will leave you dizzy with his nimble fingers; Christina Ewald—the blonde with the rhythm and jump rope queen of the schoolyard attitude. You can’t say no to the seduction! Hailing from NYC, America’s Sweetheart’s sound is like a sexy flashback to the hot rock of the 70’s and 80’s. Some compare the band to Blondie, The B-52’s and The Breeders, but the band has their own distinct sound. Expect charged up sassiness with trashy, howling choruses and unmistakable echoes of a girl rock ensemble. America’s Sweetheart always hits the stage with a flood of energy and undeniably catchy, sing-along, radio-friendly songs. With titles like “Rainbow Party,” “Cute But Dumb,” and “Liquid Center,” the Sweethearts aim to please not just the go-go girl in you but the bad girl in you too! (americassweetheart.tv)

Curly and The Rocket (DC) Electric power duo Curly and The Rocket is one of the most unusual acts in rock and roll. Its leading lady is the multitalented Curly, who sings like Chaka Kahn and drums like Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz) simultaneously. The band's meatier half is a real life guitar hero, The Rocket. He charges their sound with focused aggression, weaving rhythm and slide into a tight orchestration of modern southern boogie, they call "Smash Blues." It's a musical collaboration that's influenced by their upbringing on legendary rock, and inspired by the thrill of playing hard charging, ambitious songs. In the last year, the powerhouse duo has gained notice and rewards: a three week concert tour in the UK, admission into the U.S. Armed Forces Entertainment, and a second grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Their growing fan base in the Washington/MidAtlantic region have come to expect shows that are immediate, raw and explosive. Like the early purveyors of rock music, Curly and The Rocket challenges expectations of gender, culture, and ethnicity through the visceral language of American rooted music. They're a reminder of just how great rock and roll can be. (CurlyandTheRocket.com)

Entheos: Growing up in a musical family, siblings Alison and Carl have been singing together for 20 years. In the late nineties, they hooked up with some of Carl's high school buddies to form a cover band called the Rockerfellers.
Ironically, this also happened to be a time when Alison and Carl were in the thick of writing original music, soon to be showcased to the public.
After the cover band dissolved, the duo played countless acoustic gigs from 2000 to 2005. In 2002 the vision of the music became even clearer when they became acquainted with Paul J. Falk, and invited him to help produce some of their music. It was at this point that entheos was evolving into an entity. Then, with the addition of Justin Webb in 2005, the musical goals of the band changed from big dreams to true reality...

G-spot (NY; CORE) In addition to being the Founder of the Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour, G-spot’s front woman, Gail Silverman, is a sexy siren with a spiritual twist. She commands her audience’s attention by juxtaposing her sassy wit & naked vulnerability, her magnetism & enlightenment, her wrath & passion, with a no-holds barred delivery of emotion. “…G-Spot has evolved into a loud, in your face, take over the world rock band & they have never sounded better!” Mark Fisher, GoGirlsMusic.com. G-spot has been on the NYC Indie music scene for more then ten years, fueled by the passion & relentless dedication of their founder & lead singer, Gail Silverman. With her original bass player, Donald Dixon, loyally by her side and two new rockin’ members, Dave Perry and Glenn Jenkinson, the band & music continue to grow & flourish! G-spot offers a punky, rock-pop, hi-energy wild roller coaster ride that takes listeners from one peak to the next, leaving them catching their breath & wanting more. Think Janis Joplin meets the Donnas, with an attitude & an edge reminiscent of rock divas such as Joan Jett. In addition to captivating East Coast audiences G-spot has caught the attention of the Film & TV industry. The title track of their CD “Come Here, Go Away” was featured on A&E’s Rollergirls, and their songs Revolutionary and Even the Mighty Fall were in the Independent feature film, Just Another Romantic Wrestling Comedy. For 2008 expect lots of new material filled with unexpected twists and turns that are signature G-spot, and maybe even a new CD! (gspotband.com)

Kink Ador (TN) is an indie rock band from Nashville, TN. The music is driven by funky rock bass lines, sparkly pop guitar, and a drum groove that sits tight in the pocket. They've recently been entertaining Muzik Mafia audiences by being a part of the Muzik Mafia shows and being "music without prejudice." Kink Ador's indie rock has been a great addition. (kinkador.com)

Loki the Grump (NY; CORE) LOKI THE GRUMP [is] "known for their punchy hooks, driving pulse and a strong female vocalist who brings it all together. Kind of like the lovechild of Black Flag and Poly Styrene,” says Church of Girl, while Village Voice describes them as "theatrical, sardonic punk rock." With a mission of “puttin’ the FUN back in GRUMP” it’s no wonder LTG has been spreading the grumpiness worldwide to a rabid and ever-growing fan base who proudly declare themselves GRUMPIES. Front woman Michele Jaffe – an award-winning songwriter - has evolved from playing drums in punk/goth bands into a loud, raucous and in-your-face rock goddess! She is joined by guitarist Dimitri Vishnepolsky – a Moscow-born violin & trumpet-playing guitar god; monster bassist Phil Pham, recognized for his numerous stints in NYC rock and punk bands; and a rotating roster of kick-ass drummers, with the incredibly rockin’ Jovan drumming for this tour. This diverse combo serves off-the-charts performances and hook-laden songs that haunt you for days - pure Grumpy FUN! Their EP, “The Brink” has received airplay on several local and international radio stations (including Q104.3's "Out of the Box", WBAB’s “Homegrown”, Ithaca's "Last Exit for the Lost", France's "Babes in Boyland" and Internet stations "Church of Girl", "Radio Crystal Blue" & “Suburban Hell), and they are about to launch a limited edition CD, “Who U Callin’ A Pussy! (The CCNY Sessions)”. Catch Loki the Grump on the Girls Rock & Girls Rule tour in a city near you! It’s time to GET GRUMPY!! (lokithegrump.com)

Lovebettie (PA) “The new age has a new sound!” By walking a tightrope between the aggressive grind of hard rock and the honest intimacy of acoustic piano pop, Lovebettie has become one of the most prominent and publicized bands in the Pittsburgh area. They have attracted a consistently large and loyal fan base and shared a stage with such notable national acts such as Lifehouse, The Last Goodnight, Ingram Hill, Ligion, Blameshift, Liz Berlin (of Rusted Root), and many more. They won second place in 105.9 The X and Hard Rock Café’s Winter Rock Showcase as well as accolades in several other contests including Warped Tour.com Top Ten bands. They have been filmed for Comcast On-Demand and even featured in Spin Magazine’s Hot Pursuit. Pittsburgh Post Gazette called Lovebettie, “a powerful, soulful, intriguing blend of rock, art, and humanity that is very engaging.” And The Ohio Post said, “Lovebettie plays indescribable music.” Lovebettie is currently in the process of garnering major label representation. Marisa Mini (NY; CORE) plays dirty, funny, rough-around-the-edges rock ditties that’ll charm you to the core. The sexy-as-hell guitarist/singer -- who made her GRGR debut acoustically last year armed with hilarious songs about sodomy, vibrators and blondeness -- hits the road in ‘08 with a band in the backseat and new tricks in the bag. Don’t miss the stilettos and the hot struts (or the Cherry Pie!). And don’t forget to pick up copies of her hot-off-the-press LP, ‘Sex & Guitars: Part 1, Acoustic and Electric,’ when Marisa and her hot-ass band hit your town this fall. (maritorri.com)

Motorpsychos (PA) Aggressive. Powerful. Haunting. The fuel injected female fronted Motorpsychos combine pounding metal riffs, dark-spirited punk rock, and melodic choruses as they continue to spread their supersonic breed of rock to the psycho nation. With their high-octane punk metal hybrid and iron-clad work ethic that could only come from the city of steel, the Motorpsychos have shared the bill with like minded aggressors Disturbed, Kittie, Ten Years, Il Nino, Death by Stereo, 30 Seconds to Mars, Harlow, The Shocker, Jucifer, and Modey Lemon, among others. Multiple winners of “Pittsburgh’s Best Band” title, Motorpsychos have appeared on Vans Warped Tour and 2005’s Zippo Hot Tour Semi Finals. Motorpsychos third album “Coming of Rage” is a vicious aural assault with venom-spitting lyrics that are direct, brutal, and smart. From crooning sirens to bone-chilling metal roars, the three vocalists share a common vision that is a stylistic compliment to their visceral song writing. When harmonizing guitars meet the guttural and unforgiving rhythm section, one can see how Motorpsychos have won over countless audiences on what were once unforgiving beer-soaked stages. (motorpsychos.com)

Pink Flag (NC) Comprised of Dork Flag, Lucky Flag and Sick Flag (Princess Ojiaku, Betsy Shane and Jessica Caesar), Pink Flag came together in a tin box almost 30 years to the day after its namesake album was released, in December of 2007. Pink Flag is more cult than band, more spice than sugar, more shout than whimper, but like the album, displays a method to its chaos, a virtuosity in its noisiness and a keen ear for hooks and song structure. They immediately found common ground in a love of early post-punk, riot grrl and top 40 of the 1990s. With an earnest approach to all subject matter and unabashedly campy live performances, Pink Flag have been positively infectious for audiences. Pink Flag is devoted to good friends, good times and slumber parties and can't wait for you to become places and friends of PFLAG. (myspace.com/pinkflagnc)

Princess and the Criminals (NC) were born the day Kimberly Thompson (drums) and Emily Lozen's (guitar) creative spirits meshed in an orgasmic musical explosion! Ant Sivore (bass) was thrown into the mix and Tiff Banwart (singer) took little convincing to join this magical, mystical journey. They were off at full steam…booking shows, writing till their hands bled, and dreaming of fame. Sadly even the most powerful machines stop working. Ant left for Charlotte to be a hobo and Rick Badger was brought into the madness. Ant couldn't resist the powerful prowess of his band though, so he gave up the street life and came back to make the foursome turn into an awkward fifth wheel. Em loved music, but sadly film had her heart. This led to Rick taking over guitar and Ant residing as the bassist. The line-up was set, their minds were set, and their hearts had always been set. Over two years have gone by and the band is still going strong. The eclectic tastes of the members allows for a mix of so much, that nobody can put a finger on what the genre of "PATC" really is, and that's how they like it. (myspace.com/princessandthecriminals)

RewBee (NY; CORE) is intrigued with the 7 deadly sins -- the band draws comparisons to Hole, X and Blondie. The chemistry between lead singer/songstress Rew and lead guitarist/songwriter Bee is as if Donny and Marie were raised by Iggy Pop and Patty Smith. Rew and Bee are survivors of a dysfunctional world. RewBee is raw, sexy, charming & has been performing live on many colleges radio stations in the tri state area of NYC this past year. RewBee's prized gems are D on bass and Jovan on drums. Their song 'u persued me' won the Atlas Media songwriting contest, 'u suck' landed national attention on the BAD GIRLS CLUB, & 'skeletonz' is a semi finalist up to win a record deal on Little Steven's Wicked Cool Records. Many songs are currently on rotation on Sirius radio. Their new CD release ‘the Jewel of NYC ’ will be out this fall featuring their crazy ‘cute bondage’ track *Tie me Up* "This is what you moved to NY for" Village Voice. (RewBee.com)

S (SC) is progressive punk jazz for guitar and drums. Shawna and Moose (S & M) deliver a live show that is musically and rhythmically twisted with humor, energy, and sweat. Current live comparisons are: Talking Heads, Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, The No-No’s, Grace Slick, British MOD punk, and one “punk but strangely mysterious”. S & M has played hundreds of shows in the last 10 years covering North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennesee, and South Carolina. The music is mostly original rock along with some choice covers by artists such as Motorhead, Rush, and Primus. Shawna – lead/rhythm guitar/vocals/loop - has played in numerous original/cover bands since the late 80’s. She has a Master’s of Music degree that focused on composition and commercial music. Main rock influences include Smashing Pumpkins, Zappa, Pink Floyd, Grunge, 70’s/80’s punk and prog rock. Moose – drums - influences include Rush, The Police, Iron Maiden, and Van Halen. Moose started out as a drummer in a speed metal band and has played his way through rock bands, country bands, jazz bands as well as loads of studio work. (myspace.com/musicalspanking)

ShotgunDiary (TN) formed in 2006 as the brainchild of Brett Moore and John Button. Sharing a passion for all kinds of music, and too much free time, the band began to form. Looking for something unique to blend with the heavier sounds being created, Anna Moore came in to fill out the lineup on vocals. What started as a hobby has quickly evolved into a lifestyle. ShotgunDiary's influences are a culmination of several musical styles. Drawing from hard rock and alternative, with just a hint of Punk and Metal to create their sound. Smooth feminine vocal styling contrasted with heavy grooves and hook-laden melodies provide the unique sonic landscape from which ShotgunDiary's sound has emerged. (shotgundiary.com)

SoulShine (OH) SoulShine’s lead vocalist, Rhonda Baker, started writing music at age 13, and after college released two CDs. This is when she began recording and performing with Greg Baker. “We had an instant musical as well as soul connection. Our 10 year friendship helped our relationship as well as our songwriting…we respect each other, that’s what makes it work”. In 2002 Rhonda and Greg took time away from their songwriting to perform with two legendary Indiana Musicians Henry Lee Summer (“I Wish I Had a Girl”), and Carl Storie (“Put on Your Dancin’ Shoes”). “It was a great ride, but we were anxious to write and perform our own music again”. So…in 2007, Rhonda and Greg Baker, along with band-mates Brian Baker (national touring guitarist), Charlie Bushor (former drummer for The Why Store, MCA), and The Soul Rays (horn section for The Bob and Tom Band) recorded their CD, SoulShine, at Static Shack Studios. The album (released in the spring of 2008) is a new millennium revival of a funky-soulful 70’s horn band. SoulShine’s live show takes you back to the old-school concerts where the musicians and audience become one in the music that moves both your feet and your heart. (soulshinelive.com)

South85 (SC) With roots deep in the Carolinas, South85 blends country, folk, southern rock, and bluegrass to give you a listening experience that you won't soon forget. Driven by the original songwriting of Kathy Osborne and the voice of Tracy Wyatt, South85 is in a classification all their own - radio worthy songs along with an atmosphere of a back-porch jam. Named South85 for their origins along the southern interstate in South Carolina, the band chose this name because no matter where they travel, they know they will always take South I-85 back home. The marked “cowgirl” attitude and lifestyle exemplified by both Tracy and Kathy is interwoven throughout songs of independence, celebration of the south, hope, and plain old fun. South85’s sound is influenced by southern rock legends like Marshall Tucker Band, the Black Crowes, cross-genre Americana artists Old Crowe Medicine Show, Gillian Welch, and the sweet southern classics. (south85.com)

SPAREchange (GA) creates an energetic blend of pop, rock, funk, and soul music. Combining the groove of Maroon 5, the energy of No Doubt, and the vocal melodies of Kelly Clarkson, this group of young, intelligent musicians creates a sound that bridges all ages and cultures. Between the complex vocal harmonies, ripping guitar, and solid drum and bass grooves, SPAREchange will blow you away with the style, musicianship, and heart they put into their music. SPAREchange is destined to follow in the footsteps of other Atlanta music icons who brought a new style to their genre through creativity and refusal to follow current industry trends. This is the future of Popular Music. Positive. Conscious. Music created with the next generation in mind. (myspace.com/needsomesparechange)

Tami D’Mar (DC) Is the latest in a line of female pop/rock artists who refuse to be pigeon-holed into a single category. Hailing from Washington, DC, a town rich in musical history and reputation, Tami seamlessly blends epic music, synth pop, laid-back groove, drum and bass, and straight-ahead rock into a style uniquely her own. Originally from the suburbs of Indiana, with a stint in California, Tami brings to DC her creativity and energy, with a live show to match. And with her first release from Head High Records, “Expectations”, Tami ups the ante for the versatile solo female artist in today’s scene. The “Expectations” EP offers a glimpse of things to come from an exciting new artist with a very bright future in the musical world. (tamidmar.com)

The Banana Convention (OH) What would happen if No Doubt and The Presidents of the United States of America got into an all out cage match brawl, and The B52's were the guest referee? With The Banana Convention, you just might find the answer. The self professed "circus rock" band's musical style is all over the place, but a heaping pinch of High Energy and Good Times are the main ingredients. Fronted by the beautiful and powerful Shar "Mighty Aftrodytee" Molina, The BC bring to the stage a cavalcade of music and fun every time they perform. (TheBananaConvention.com)

Victims Of Experience (MD) If you are a connoisseur of self-doubt, heartaches, and all-around bad decisions or have an appreciation for the cavalier attitude of the drunken bourgeoisie then Victims of Experience is the band for you. A Baltimore favorite, VOE has acquired a solid fan base over their short lifespan with popular covers, but more importantly their attraction lies in their identifiable originals. Focusing on the themes of love, lust, death, and the ultimate search for self-fulfillment, VOE carries an extremely relatable message. VOE, like most great bands, rose out of the ashes of projects past. A combination of members from local groups Killpatrick, Blue Water Groove, and Honey Dewpont brought about a winning prescription for rock conquest. The line-up includes powerhouse vocalist and keyboardist Kristin Lagana and the unique rock sound of alto sax player Jon Michael Bittman, along with our unstoppable rhythm section featuring guitarist Mike Bair, bassist Steve Boughan, and Dave Stella on drums. We’ve rocked many stages, but our favorites include Rams Head Live, Recher Theatre, Fletchers, Hard Rock Café, and the Seaside MusicFest. VOE is all about bringing the party so if you consider yourself a Victim of Experience: Welcome to the hot mess that is our family! (myspace.com/victimsofexperience)

ZoiRose (MD) It is safe to say that there is no other band out today like Baltimore's ZoiRose. Many describe the band as a female fronted version of “Staind”. However, once you listen to the music, you will see ZoiRose really is in a class by itself. The rockers bring a certain soul and passion that is not easy to find in today’s rock music scene, not to mention that all the music is written and produced by the band. The band is lead by lead vocalist Zoi, who put the band together after leaving the Wu Tang 2006 tour as an opening artist performing with a hip hop/heavy metal band. While on tour, she eventually sold all copies of her 5 song EP and decided it was time to focus on the all new “wrecking squad” that is ZoiRose. Currently, the band is promoting their new LP, "Off Road To Redemption", due for release in Sept 2008 on Novakain Entertainment Records, which features hard hitting ballads such as “Bad Things”, the uptempo, guitar driven “Raw”, and the hit single “Stalker’s Anthem”. Experience the new rock movement that is ZoiRose at Myspace.com/zoirose and see the video for “Stalker’s Anthem” at YouTube.com. (myspace.com/zoirose)

Dormitory Effect

Four New York women, Susan, Meredith, Urith and Gee paid their dues in such bands as Perseverance, One Step Beyond and Sympathetic Magic. They finally decided to take on the world as a united force - Dormitory Effect. Dormitory Effect was selected to perform at the Rockrgrl Conference in Seattle, becoming the second highest draw for the entire event, and Toronto's prestigious North by Northeast Conference. They have been a featured live act on comedian Jim Breuer's Sirius satellite radio show, "Breuer Unleashed”. The band was also listed in the Garry Sharpe-Young book “The New Wave of American Heavy Metal”. Dormitory Effect was invited to open for such acts as Jamey Jasta, In This Moment and Suicide City and events such as Girls Rock & Girls Rule. Their CD, "Wealth of the Disease" showcases not only the group’s formidable musical chops, but also their strength as songwriters and uniqueness as a band. Their song, "Let This Cease" is being featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming independent film "Dark Victory". Other songs from the CD enjoy regular spins on terrestrial stations such as WBAB and WUSB as well as several Internet radio stations. You only live once so take hold of the chance, don't end up like others, same song and dance.

All Out Riot

All Out Riot is a five-piece band from Long Island, NY that was formed in the summer of 2006. Boasting an undeniably brash pop-punk sound infused with ska, reggae, and funk, this group's influences range from Reel Big Fish to Red Hot Chili Peppers. As evidenced by the thrashing throng that attends each show, their grooves are irresistible and far too danceable to ignore. The front woman of this eclectic combo and original Riot grrrl, Courtney belts out lyrics that are at once deeply personal and yet easy to relate to in a heart-searing manner. Songs about love lost and gained, and sometimes just pure anger management, serve as superior therapy for both her and the audience. Babs' funky bass lines, Toby's jazzy yet frenetic drum work, and Michael's rhythmic, riff-friendly guitar keep the party going. And adding a semi-symphonic sound to this punk-ish outfit, Mike rounds out the tunes with smooth sax solos and catchy horn hooks. This is pure ska bliss without losing its pop sensibility. Keep on skankin'!

The Rosies

Two Years In the Making...Pulling influences from all over the map, the Rosies have finally perfected the art of indie rock. A lineup change including the addition of drummer Eric Solomon and guitarist Steve Goldstein helped inject an original and super melodic flavor to the band. Add to that the driving bass line and three-part harmonies of singer April Jimenez, guitarist Jenn Garay and bassist Brock Gibson. An experiment in intellectual rock, the Rosies continue to push themselves and music to its limits to see just how far they can go.

PRESENTING THE 2008 MONTCLAIR, NJ PREVIEW BANDS - July 14, 2008

Infernophonic

The sounds of Infernophonic burn away the conventions and pretensions of an ailing industry, leaving behind a groove-laden, hook-heavy molten core that captures all the spirit and splendor of classic hard rock. A collection of diverse talents with a common goal, Infernophonic embodies the concept that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Band members draw their inspiration from a laundry list of influences as wide ranging as Black Box and Black Sabbath, as diametric as Yes and No Means No. Unique in its ability to seamlessly blend a variety of sounds and styles into a potent presentation, Infernophonic is not easily lumped into the convenient categories of today, and more readily draws comparisons to the multi-tasking rock giants of the past. Musically adroit without overindulgence; heavy without the metal and effectively infectious without selling out to the pop (sub) standard so many others are ruled by, Infernophonic offers something for every listener. Their debut CD “Spark it Up” is available now – produced by Soulive drummer Alan Evans, and recorded and mixed at Applehead Studios in Woodstock NY, “Spark it Up” is receiving rave reviews from music press and charting strongly on college and independent radio.

New Day Dawn

NEW DAY DAWN represents a new chapter for dynamic songstress, Dawn Botti and her husband/ drummer Gary Szczecina. The pair was the core for the NJ based hard-rock band, Slushpuppy - a band that racked up a list of accolades including TV & film credits, Asbury Music Award nominations, a coveted JAGERMEISTER sponsorship and airplay on K-ROCK - until its disbandment in 2003. Picking up where Slushpuppy left off, NEW DAY DAWN has more pop sensibility without losing that hard-rock edge.
Though together for only over a year, the band plays like a well-oiled machine and is about to release its first 9-song full-length release later this summer -- not surprising, considering Botti and Szczecina's intimate familiarity and the fact that the other half of the band: PJ Angeloni (guitar) and Robert Choe (bass) have played in various other projects for years. The band is a true testament to Grrrl power ! "The guys don't have individual agendas for this project and are truly letting me be in charge. That is both scary and exciting!" She may feel trepidation inside, but Botti's take-no-prisoners attitude and powerful vocals betray no signs of timidity and are a perfect match for groups amped-up accessible pop/rock songs (think updated Pat Benatar or Joan Jett). "I will never be a mellow singer. I'm a rock chick through and through. But a more mature, experienced rock chick now." Botti's new attitude is likely attributable to the fact that she and Szczecina became parents in 2005 with the birth of their son, Walker. "Having a child changes everything," says Botti, "you see the world through new eyes. It's all exciting and wondrous again and you can't help but feel constant love surrounding you."
